Hello Yellow

I have been scrutinizing my BirdCam output in recent weeks for signs that our American Goldfinches are acquiring their dazzling breeding season wardrobes. The males in my local group are definitely making the transition, some more rapidly than others as always is the case. The plumage is plainly getting much more yellow this week and the black crowns are becoming more distinct. I'll be very interested to learn how long I can expect to enjoy the final summer colors. Last summer my resident Goldfinches moved off en masse in May and were essentially on hiatus for half a year. Perhaps their wunderlust will be contained in 2009! As for March, they have almost taken over one of my sunflower seed feeders and are having a grand time for themselves. I have put out a new nyjer sock but for now this has gone unnoticed. But fine, let them take what they wish. I am enjoying the photos of their feeding frenzy.
