Always Entertaining Robins

American Robins are a daily fixture at Cary BirdCam, as no doubt they are in any suburban back yard. But it must be said that Robins are a constant source of entertainment. I also think they photograph especially well and I have accumulated many fine pictures and videos of them. I've particularly enjoyed their antics at the suet baskets. A Robin will alight on the deck railing, study the basket with intensity, and either attempt to perch on it, or just as often beat its wings furiously in a hover. Once possessed of a scrap of suet it drops away. This ritual is repeated many, many times a day. Last summer they made extensive use of the birdbath, and as very thorough bathers provided truly amusing photographs and videos. As we are in a lull between winter and spring visitations, it is the Robins who hold center stage at the feeder stations. It's a great show!
