Time For a Summer Strategy

I think that keepers of bird feeders are well aware that as we start to leave spring behind, activity at feeders goes down. My logbook is already showing me that the photos-per-day average is coming down sharply in May and if the 2008 observations are any indicator, this trend will continue. I expected a big decline by June, as other food sources become more plentiful, but I am surprised to see that April '09 came in with many fewer photographs taken than the year before, and May is projected to close about as far off. Some of this is my own clumsiness (I had some of those "forgot to turn the camera on" days in both months), but quite a bit of the difference is reduced volume at places where I did well last year, such as the hummingbird feeders. In any event, the photographic volume will clearly fall farther in high summer, so my BirdCam strategy will need to change to follow the birds, and on opportunity shots in interesting places. The wheels in my mind are turning!
