When one has been feeding birds and having them around a sufficiently long period of time, one starts to bring the birds into "the family" in ways that are probably a stretch. I've seen the same effect on the nature programs where the observer begins to assign names, personalities, and much more to the individual animals he or she follows. I am definitely overstretching a little with the House Finches who seem to be at my feeders all day. When I saw this photo last night, my immediate reaction was "lovers' quarrel" even though this female Finch probably had something else on her mind when she hissed at the male below. But why not engage in some flights of fancy? It makes the birdwatching just that more interesting.
