No sooner had I declared the land of Cary BirdCam devoid of Ruby Throated Hummingbirds than I found evidence of them in that same back yard. As I cleaned and filled feeders Saturday I encountered a female hummer at the southwest corner feeding station. I came across her (or at least, a hummingbird) at two other points during the day. I made sure to redirect my BirdCam to the most likely feeder and indeed picked up an image on Sunday. So they made a monkey of me! Nevertheless, I am not observing nearly the frequency of Hummingbird activity to which I am acquainted. Am I missing it? or are there strange patterns of visitation at work here in 2009?
