In these parts I can expect our Pine Warblers to be, at best, sporadic visitors to the suet feeders during the summer months. In 2008 I photographed the Pine Warbler on only one summer day, and this year I have recorded a bird on just four days. But neither do I expect to see one much before November, so it was a delightful surprise to see this picture from yesterday afternoon. They have no especial need for suet in October: insect populations are still up there and the weather is not a challenge. Perhaps they need a little variety and the bugs may be getting monotonous? who knows? I have many protein-rich temptations planned for the Pine Warblers as winter begins to settle in. I know they will be dropping by when they are ready.
