It is so easy to take for granted the amazing physical capabilities of songbirds. Some of our species have astonishing strength in their feet and we almost don't notice. Most can perch on a tree branch, lock their digits, and sleep without falling! Most can grasp the most unpromising surfaces and cling the first time. And quite a few can hang even upside down (as this wren is doing) --and feed-- without a second thought. I don't think I could hang upside down, holding on only with my toes, and eat my supper. Nor could I hold on too long in any position save upright! They may be small, but the birds have serious strength!
