The weather is hot, and as the squirrels pile up in my yard, my temper could go likewise. But before that happens, I am trotting out the latest tool in my ongoing effort to vex these beasts who have done so much to vex me. I found this little jewel from U.S. Patrol that promises to "repel[] cats, dogs, squirrels, and other nuisance animals without harm." The secret is a high frequency sound generator (20,000-25,000 Hz!) that is supposedly irritating to critters but can't be heard by mere humans. I haven't had enough squirrel (or cat) intrusions to know if it delivers the goods. Does it irritate and repel them? Is the rated 20-foot limit too narrow? Does it also repel birds? and does it work through a window? These questions will be tested in the days ahead. I am hopeful that I have a new and delightful way to clear my feeders of these furry marauders. More soon...
