Those darn birds never cease to amaze me. I was utterly convinced that in this July heat wave seed and suet consumption would follow its usual pattern and decline through November. Makes sense: insects and invertebrates are more plentiful and easier to take. But I can assure you that my suet bill is really no different than in say, January. Less than in the feeding-the-youngsters season, but far above summer norms. It's not just one bird or species. Today we recorded twelve species gorging on hot pepper suet -- and a cake I put out three days ago is almost wiped out. What gives? avian laziness? or is this stuff even tastier than the bugs? Surprise! Suet Still Going Fast
