As surely as I convinced myself that the Gray Catbird season of 2010 ended than I find myself contradicted by photo evidence. Just yesterday, in fact, BirdCam shot this photo of a Catbird at the primary suet feeder. Now, there was only one picture in a full day run, and I have not otherwise seen Catbirds at the feeders, so it is just possible this is either a migrant from farther away stopping for a bite, or a lingering stray who for whatever reasons doesn't come to feeders often. Either way we have an "outlier." Catbirds are usually gone by the last week of August. But what an interesting event. And as so often, the birds like to prove me wrong, and even that can be a lot of fun. Who wouldn't mind seeing a Catbird just one more time?
