At least one of the sunflower seed feeders emptied a lot today, and two mysteries were solved, if BirdCam is to be believed. For one, it's clear that these days the seed is pretty much eaten by gluttonous House Finches. When they show up, seed goes fast. When they vanish (as was the case this week), seed doesn't move. Other seed eaters are apparently favoring safflower. And the other mystery? The House Finches didn't get wiped out by the cold. No indeed, the whole mob appeared today. So there it is. A feast or famine---of finches. Which is worse?
