This afternoon I had the pleasure of a guided fall bird walk offered by our city's parks and recreation department. One of the treasures we encountered were both species of kinglets that visit us in the winter. The Golden Crowned Kinglet is a bit standoffish, is usually high in trees and never comes to feeders. Its cousin the Ruby Crowned (shown) works fairly low to the ground and will come to suet feeders. I'm hoping to see them again this winter, but for now it was a thrill to see them once again. These little devils are so much a part of our winter experience!
