One Tough Momma
One must truly marvel at some of our passerines. In the hottest part of summer they can hole up in a nest box, which despite ventilation holes must be a hothouse, and tough out an incubation period. And I still marvel even if the bird in question here is a House Wren who's elbowed out Eastern Bluebirds. Momma wren has been on station for many days. I can easily see if she's home by "pishing": right away she sticks her head out to see what blasted fool is making a racket. Hatching must be soon. I will leave her (and any fledglings) in peace, but I am in a hurry to eliminate the nest as soon as I can. For now, I marvel at how tough a Momma she is.
