The Next Big Search

The winter before last I made a surprise discovery on the southeast corner of the property.  Viewed from only one angle, this Sweetgum is perforated by a series of holes.  And those holes are made by only one type of bird.  Clearly, Yellow Bellied Sapsuckers had been in the area.  This species is only found in these parts in winter, and isn't one to visit feeders.  So every winter, I may be missing another visual treat.  I keep hoping to find one, but haven't scored a run yet.  Another winter affords a new opportunity, and I'm giving thought to ways of getting that elusive photograph.  Will I finally see a YBS here? stay tuned!
