Cormorants!

Winter has some singular pleasures for birdwatchers in the Piedmont.  Among the best of these is the arrival of various waterfowl.  In these times we see many Double Crested Cormorants.  I've seen them in the local lakes throughout the year but always see the highest number now.  These are amazing birds to watch: natural fishers which dive with grace and dry themselves in such amusing ways.  They're smart as heck, too.  These Cormorants hang around the fish feeders at the municipal lake, knowing that this is a great place to catch fish!  But as nifty as Cormorants are, I am not going to see one in the backyard.  Can't have everything...
