First Hummingbird 2013

Is it summer yet?  The thermometer hasn't said so.  And even this weekend it was noticeably cool for late April.  But it might as well be the hot time, for the hummingbirds are definitely here.  I spotted one in the "back forty" this morning.  Hard to say, could have been either a male or female.  But a Ruby Throated Hummingbird it was.  My guests have ready access to four nectar feeders and already a fine crop of Columbine and Phlox to mine, not to mention any good, small insects.  It is typical for the nesting to have already started so perhaps I am seeing the birds later than usual.  But it is just possible I saw a migrant.  Who cares!  it's one of the happy moments of the year.  Welcome, hummers!
