Low Woodpecker Counts
Come to think of it, it has been a relatively poor year for woodpeckers here at Cary BirdCam. I have seen (or have BirdCam photos of) a few Downys, but hardly anything else. A Red Bellied now and then. A Hairly, rarely. A Flicker (shown) never. I suspect the natural food choices are in good shape and that they hardly need -- or want -- our suet offerings. It has been a decent year for insects, after all. And come winter these birds may be back in force. That will be worth the wait.
