As reported earlier this month, I recently engaged in some bird feeder related construction work here in the land of Cary BirdCam. Over the years my primary feeder station has grown from a single 10-foot pole with one feeder to a huge three-armed, 14-foot beast carrying thirteen feeders. (I have used the International Space Station model: add, add, add some more.) But growth has its price. My "ISS" has become heavy enough to start sink noticeably into even the brutishly compact Carolina clay. Over the winter I designed a footing and on the 15th did all the digging and concrete pouring and on Memorial Day relocated the feeder “tree” into its new and improved base. The tree is now a little taller, is easier to rotate for feeder access, and is hopefully complete, for good. I’m not ruling out creation of a sister tree of some kind on the other corner of the property, but for a good while I am done with this type of project. There are still many projects on my drawing board, from some landscaping enhancements to improved nesting facilities. But any good hobby must be one with unlimited room for expansion, and I have grown mine a long, long way. Onwards!
