Keeping Seed Dry and Airtight

On a week when the consumption of seeds at the feeders has slowed enormously (and mysteriously), my thoughts turn to inventory management during the rest of the summer. Part of that equation is keeping birdseed and other foodstuffs safe, dry, and fresh especially if there's going to be more sitting around week-to-week than expected! At Cary BirdCam I am very much a repurposer in accomplishing these aims. The heart of my granery-in-the-garage are charcoal caddies. I got a pretty good price for them and they make excellent seed bins capable of storing the contents of a 20-25# bag of seed or its equivalent each. A repurposed (and clean!) trash can serves nicely for storing partial bags of seed and other odds and ends. I don't have a vermin problem at all, and things are reasonably tidy, and the seed keeps pretty well. Not necessarily pretty, but it works. Now if I can only figure out what's going on at the feeders!
