About Time to Hoist the Nectar Feeders
It's conventional bird-wisdom in this part of the country to put up hummingbird nectar feeders on April 1st. And that is no fooling! Already observers at Hummingbird have spotted the first hummer of the season in our area and the good people at Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve have put out their nectar feeders. I am about ready here. I've pulled out the feeders from winter storage to clean them again, purchased a new model to replace a damaged dish, and will be brewing first nectar tomorrow. I'll make the official hang on Monday so that I am "official" on the required day. Then it is a matter of waiting for the first bird to pass by. Our residents? not until May, I expect!
