Last week I received an "Urgent Feeder Health Care Notice" from an area retailer that advised of unusual American Goldfinch fatalities in Durham and Chatham Counties to our west. The irruption of Pine Siskins has definitely led to crowded feeders here. I've seen my usual large flocks of Goldfinches and House Finches at all my feeders, and the Siskins are in good number as well. So far so good, though, as my (hopefully) cleaned feeder stations have not seen any bird deaths. I'm monitoring the situation, and my BirdCam is giving me insights into what level of conflicts are breaking out.
