I'm definitely not seeing Red Breasted Nuthatches as often this winter as last. In 2007 I photographed an RBN on 33 different days at seven different feeders. So far this winter, only two days at two different feeders. Visually, I see them now and then at my peanut piece feeder and at the suet basket. However, for whatever reason I've been far less successful with the BirdCam. I do have two consolations: one is that I photographed the first encounter in November, so that I did not have great difficulty attracting this nuthatch to the feeders, and perhaps the lower volume of sightings has more to do with adequate natural food supplies. The other is that last winter's visiting RBN stayed until at least April 14th, so perhaps I have many more weeks to enjoy what sightings I can. I'll certainly be turning BirdCam on the peanut piece feeder a lot more often in the last days of winter.
