Until this past week, our Hermit Thrush "regular" had been a strict one-note-Charlie, interested only in the delights of peanut butter. But perhaps this bird has been keeping its eyes open to other possibilities, watching other birds and what they enjoy. Recent BirdCam photos picked up a succession of visits by the Hermit Thrush to one of the suet baskets. At least in that first day, there were visits at three points during the day, so the suet must be something good to its palate. Here again is seen the value of the BirdCam in revealing behavior that might been seen in person much later--if at all. Today I learned that my Hermit Thrush is a pretty good student.
