My “grail bird” here at Cary BirdCam would have to be an Oriole. Both Baltimore Orioles (in winter) and Orchard Orioles (in summer) have been recorded in Cary, although I have not as yet seen one at my home since we moved here seven years ago. I made a modest effort to attract an Orchard Oriole last spring, but I came in too late a time in the season. This season I plan to put out grape jelly before April 1st and see if I can woo any passing birds. Unfortunately, this is not the most ideal habitat for these attractive Passerines, and the common wisdom says I am whistling Dixie. However, I do far better with Eastern Bluebirds--another edge lover-- than my peers say I should. We shall see what comes. We all must have our dreams!
