Practical Data on the Use of the Remote Control

I took advantage of the nice weekend weather to run a test that I’ve been meaning to conduct for some time. Just how far a distance can I expect to use my BirdCam’s remote control device? To do this I attempted to take pictures at specific time and distance intervals both outside and inside the house. What I found was that my range is at least 65 feet on an unobstructed outside sight line, and at least 42 feet on an inside sight line---the longest lines of sight I could achieve from the feeders. Three words of advice to BirdCammers: First, check your battery! Mine had expired recently. If the red LED doesn’t light when you depress the photo or video buttons, it is history, and you’ll need a specialty 12V 23A remote control battery. I found one at the local Radio Shack. Second, be sure the BirdCam has enough power for the antenna. (23% is too low!) and third, be sure to hold the button for at least two seconds to get a picture. All in all this is a marvelous accessory for the BirdCam, and I enjoy its use when circumstances allow.

Great info! The day I tried my remote I wasn't too successful but I can use your tips to try again.
By the way, you have a great blog!
Happy birding!
