Sunflower seed and Suet may be King and Queen at bird feeding stations, but as for me, I am elevating humble peanut butter to the royal family. I’ve been using this product for some time (I buy the “extra crunchy” form as cheaply as I can---the birds don’t seem to care) which attracts a wide variety of birds. Some of the species that seem insatiably drawn to peanut butter are Brown Headed Nuthatches, Carolina Chickadees, Carolina Wrens, Eastern Bluebirds, Hermit Thrushes, Northern Mockingbirds, Pine Warblers, Tufted Titmice, and Yellow-Rumped Warblers. I have many good photos taken by the BirdCam of these visitors to my peanut butter feeder, the best of which I have posted to the Wingscapes Photo Gallery. My only challenge: how to keep the squirrels away. I’ll be trying an experiment along those lines this summer.
