Another summer bird has returned to the land of Cary BirdCam. Yesterday's BirdCam photos included one shot of a Gray Catbird. Last year I first recorded one on April 13th, so it was high time for us to see one this season. I haven't been photographing at the suet feeders for well over a week, so perhaps I missed an earlier opportunity: the Catbirds almost always visited the suet baskets in past years at the feeder station. We also had fun watching the Catbirds (as well as other thrushes) pillaging the Mahonia fruits in the front yard at their peak in late May. We will be enjoying the Catbirds until at least late August, and their arrival essentially completes our summer species contigent.
