A Lingering Siskin

One of the delights to using the BirdCam is its potential for surprises. A review of a day's shoot on the BirdCam sometimes reveals the most unexpected results---and the proof is there in beautiful .jpg images. Such was my amazement in seeing a picture of a Pine Siskin at my safflower tubes yesterday. I hadn't seen one in two weeks and believed them gone for the season if not many seasons. Perhaps this bird is a straggler, perhaps it is a last wave migrant who had been much farther south this past winter. Thanks to the BirdCam I enjoyed at least one more glimpse of this irregular visitor and a good reminder that wonderful things go on when we aren't around to peer out the windows.

That's so interesting to me since we have pine siskins here in OR quite a bit - I counted 40+ at one time one day!

Of course I have never seen one of those cute tufted titmouses like you have! :)

Hi Deb! The Siskins caused quite a stir here in this part of North Carolina. Despite what the field guides may say they aren't common in winter. My largest flock this winter may have been 8-10 birds. We definitely enjoyed having them!
