Cardinals Handling All Feeders

One of the things I was led to understand when I first put up feeders was that Northern Cardinals would be extremely picky and needed at least a platform feeder to be attracted to the station. As it turns out, our Cardinals have been true "go with the flow" birds, not only enjoying both suspended and ground level platforms, but even making a go of tube feeder perches and our "lantern" feeder with its narrow ledge. What is more, I see Cardinals all day, rather than at the sunrise-and-sunset only schedule predicted by the experts. In spite of their flexibility, I am keeping the suspended platform set up intentionally for Cardinals. I offer safflower seed and also some hot pepper suet nuggets which I'm hoping will also interest these grosbeaks. So far they are taking the safflower but I can't quite tell if they're going for the suet pieces. But they are coming and, I hope, are happy customers.
