Well, That Didn't Work

Sometimes what seemed like a good idea just doesn't work out. Such was the case after I picked up a bag of cotton fibers from my local Wildbirds Unlimited over the winter. These fibers are intended for use by nesting birds. I hung the bag in a well travelled corridor before nesting season began. And...not much happened. The fibers were picked at for a few days, and I was optimistic at that time that some nesting birds were using the material. But no activity has occurred since. So this idea fell flat. Perhaps the demand for these fibers is lower than I expected (although I have observed the user of dryer lint in nest boxes previously!). I will keep the cotton bag up for a time: some resident species are known to make a second nest attempt at this time of year. We'll rethink this all in winter.
