This has been a great year for Gray Catbirds at CaryBird Cam, and they have provided endless entertainment. My family group of Catbirds migrated on time, quickly set up shop, cleaned out the Mahonia bushes, and got right down to the business of bringing a youngster into the world. And they all remain fussy and fidgety as they visit the suet baskets many, many times a day. The junior bird is an especially noisy character and was a total nuisance to its doting parents. They're no longer feeding it, but the young one continues to squawk and mew petulantly at the whole world. All of the family members fuss at me when I check on the feeders, even though I think they have a pretty good idea that I am no threat to them. But the Catbird scold is a funny sound to my ears, and I actually enjoy these attentions. Certainly the summer would be a lot less fun without a Catbird around.
