While I keep a regular routine of checking water supplies at my two bird baths, I am especially attentive to quality as the weather has heated up this summer. We're regularly hitting the 90s these days and especially nasty things like to grow in those conditions. Mostly I battle algae but there are other things that show up, too. A good scrub with a little bit of bleach does wonders. I'm also checking water levels especially in the ground level bath as it doesn't have its own inlet (and as the birds splash a lot of water out!). So far all is well and my regulars (like this Catbird during the 96 degree steam bath on Saturday) can stay healthy, clean and maybe a little cooler.
