Baby Blue

The run of successful nest attempts has definitely continued into midsummer. Not only have we been enjoying the second-clutch Northern Cardinals which are devouring safflower seed like there is no tomorrow, but we discovered this Eastern Bluebird youngster yesterday. I don't know if the Bluebirds had a successful nest early in spring, but they did get at least the second one off, and probably not at one of our bird boxes. It looks like Mama has discovered the suet nuggets I offer as part of the hanging platform's menu. And given Junior's obviously voracious appetite, that easy-to-raid stash of protein is a blessing for the parents! I'd better check to see if we need to get some more suet nuggets out when I get home...
