Some weeks ago I observed that our Northern Cardinals were taking crumbs fallen from the hanging suet feeders. I wondered if I needed to consider putting out suet (in some form) that Cardinals and other platform-happy species could enjoy. My experiment involved a bag of suet "nuggets" and the hanging platform feeder. In the past month I have seen the Cardinals responding favorably to this product. The latest juveniles pretty much live in the platform feeder! In addition other species have enjoyed the suet nuggets as well including the Carolina Wrens and Gray Catbirds. The hanging platform feeder has been a popular place these past weeks! I'll definitely been sticking with the suet nugget product and see what comes of it.
