We're now in the second half of Hummingbird season and I continue to see only a fraction of the feeder traffic I am used to. From time to time I see and hear these birds, but it's more hit and miss than clockwork. Here's an example: My BirdCam output yesterday, at last year's most popular feeder, was all of 14 images for an entire day, and in only one did a Ruby Throated Hummingbird appear. Last year on July 21st I recorded 57 hummingbird images (albeit with a 3-picture per visit setting), so I am seeing one-twentieth as many photographs. Well, at least they visit sometimes, and I am always appreciative of whatever I get to see. But at this stage I suspect 2009 will be a bum year when the books are closed. Better luck next year!
