Based on past experience we are now almost at the midpoint of Hummingbird season in the Piedmont, and yet I have recorded very little activity of these migrants. A few photos taken on two dates (5/30 and 6/7), and a few visual observations since Easter Sunday are I all that I have this deep into the summer. It's definitely been the worst year I've had since moving here in 2002. A fellow Cary birdfeeder related to me that he also has seen little sign of Hummingbirds. I wonder if we have had some problems with the Piedmont population this year? The nectar feeders remain out, clean and well stocked. But time is fast running out on the season.

I've not seen even one...subsequently we took down our feeder a week ago.
