The temperature is up (mid 90s) and the heat is on---at the suet baskets. Yesterday's BirdCam photography tells the story. My "woodpecker friendly" suet feeder attracted no less than ten different species. Most often this included insatiable Gray Catbirds, Common Grackles, Eastern Bluebirds, and Red Bellied Woodpeckers. But we also observed visits (in decreasing frequency) by Downy Woodpeckers, American Robins, Pine Warblers, Carolina Wrens, White Breasted Nuthatches, and Blue Jays. Best of all, the hot pepper suet mix (no-melt formula) kept the squirrels away! Summer heat is no obstacle in attracting many species of wild birds. Keep the suet up!

Suet Still Hot Item in Summer
