This past month has seen an unexpected, but welcome turn of events concerning the most wretched
sciurus carolinensis. My sense of things is that I am getting visits from no more than two animals (I base my reasoning on "exit paths", and the two I chase off depart by very different routes,) but these two are surprisingly modest in their demands on the feeders. I have been stocking a ground level platform feeder with sunflower seed as a bribe to stay off the tubes. To my amazement the squirrels are in fact staying off the other feeders. Hence, I will keep paying the bribe, chasing them off now and then to keep them honest, and hoping that this keeps up. This is a cost of doing business I can afford.
