Increasing Hummingbird Observations

Readers will recall my reports of lower levels of Ruby Throated Hummingbird activity this summer. Happily, things are slowly picking up and I am observing the hummers more frequently in recent days. One development is that our usually reliable dish feeder at the primary feeder station appears to be "owned" by a female and irregularly visited by a male. This is the first male I had seen since Easter Sunday. We're now seeing the female every day and usually more than once each day. My front yard "Apple" is now "owned" as well, and that female bird is taking up station in a Sweetgum on the property. I am wondering if she is a daughter bird born this year. And, I am fairly certain that a third female has taken ownership of the feeder in our back southwest corner. I see her a great deal now. So overall levels of activity are approaching what I routinely observed last year. Too bad we are down to less than two months before this winged jewels begin their migration south!
