Water is a powerful force. Given enough time it can grind mountains into sand, sculpt Grand Canyons and mighty Mississippi Rivers. Driven by wind it can scour whole landscapes clear. And then there is the Cary BirdCam dripper/mister system. (sigh.) I have had a world of trouble with the darn thing this year. Water pressure was high enough to blow out connections several times after I rigged it up in late March. It took weeks to finally adjust it properly. In one case the thing spewed water --undetected-- for hours: over 500 gallons' worth according to the water meter records I keep. The old polymer tubing is wearing out. Yesterday I caught sight of a hole in the pipeline before it did more damage to our budget. I shut the system down, fearing worse. I may use the down time to reassess the craziness. I have no proof any bird gives a whiff about the mister, and the "water wiggler" at the other bath seems to be attracting more birds. Perhaps I should pack up the gear and put out something that is not attached in some way to a municipal utility system. Let me tell you, the dripper is water torture!
