More Birds Doing the Molting Thing

I reported earlier in the week that the Northern Cardinals were the most conspicuous of my backyard visitors which are molting. BirdCam photographs are now clearly showing some other clear examples. My House Finches are looking rather scruffy. But even more so, the Carolina Wrens have the classic "I'm really molting" look. I'm taking this as a definitive sign that the wrens are finally done with nesting season and that biologically speaking, fall is on the way. The wrens will need fresh, healthy feathers to keep warm when the time comes. We're doing our part: there's plenty of high quality food in the feeders, and my deck seems to be a magnet for all kinds of invertebrates just as the wrens like it.
