A Very Surprise Visit

Every now and then an unexpected bird, say, like a Red Winged Blackbird or Rose Breasted Grosbeak will come upon my feeders. If I am very fortunate, BirdCam will be there to snap a photograph. That combination of good luck was with me on Tuesday afternoon when a female Summer Tanager paid a call. I am accustomed to hearing (and infrequently) seeing Summers in the high pine tree tops in thick woodlands. I have not heard or known of feeder visits. Perhaps this Summer was curious, seeing the other birds. Or perhaps she was passing through and needed a rest. I doubt she tried the safflower seed in the platform but maybe she tried the suet nuggets. This rare visit will almost certainly not be repeated, but it is a treasured moment for Cary BirdCam.

NOTE: I will be attending a conference this weekend and will not be posting until at least Sunday night. I'll be on Emerald Island (NC) and perhaps will get a chance to observe some shorebirds. You'll get my report soon!
