It being a pretty nice Sunday afternoon (for here, anyway--85 degrees) I spent some time in the front yard practicing some early choral music but keeping an eye on our apple nectar feeder. We have a female Ruby Throated Hummingbird who "owns" this particular feeder and who brooks no trespass. She visited regularly, swooping down every five minutes or so from a perch in the nearby Sweetgum tree. But she is an inquisitive bird and at least twice took a spin around the open garage, fascinated by the red manual release handle for the garage door, and annoyed that she wasn't getting any nectar from it. What an enjoyable time! I'm pretty certain Morley, Tallis, and Gibbons did not have the pleasure of composing music whilst watching hummingbirds. But I sure enjoyed listening to their works while seeing one.
