Quiet Days at the Feeder Stations

This was the first Saturday in many months that I didn't have much to do at the feeder stations. Things are very quiet, as they always are here from September to November. Very little product is moving, be it suet or seed. My traffic is pretty much down to the House Finches (i.e. "Stomachs With Wings," Cardinals and Mourning Doves, and the occasional woodpecker. It's all a reminder that the youngsters are pretty well grown up, that there is plenty of natural food to harvest, and that birds don't need to work hard either to stay warm or cool. I'll be using the break to stockpile foodstuffs for winter. I'm well laden with suet (20 cakes?), peanut pieces, millet, and peanut butter. I'll need to bulk up on sunflower and safflower to make the working larder complete. Fall is here!
