September Matches Well to Last Year

Around these parts, September is a month for the diehard regulars only. In 2008 I recorded a mere eight species on the BirdCam. These true "barflies" included Mourning Doves, Ruby Throated Hummingbirds, Red Bellied Woodpeckers, Carolina Chickadees, Tufted Titmice, Carolina Wrens, Northern Cardinals, and House Finches. I'm doing only a little better in 2009, having observed all of the above and also American Goldfinches, Chipping Sparrows, Song Sparrows, and White Breasted Nuthatches. I'm not quite sure if my feeders are a little more attractive this year than last, as my journal only reflects photographs, and I can't remember all that well what I saw but didn't photograph. But these regulars are a welcome sight as summer ends, and I am gratified I can keep them coming back for more.
