Among the few species who are frequenting my feeders these September days are American Goldfinches. However, evidence is that it's only a pair of birds--the larger neighborhood flock continues to avoid my stations as it has for more than a year. I have been pointing the BirdCam at feeders where the sunflower tubes form a backdrop and I am seeing the finches very regularly at the easternmost tube. It's possible that there is a juvenile involved but I don't have enough evidence to support that idea, except that the Goldfinches should have been nesting in late summer. Will the rest of the flock return in the fall? We shall see.
