As the weather gets progressively cooler, I am looking forward to the arrival of the winter species. I expect to see them by mid-November at latest, although none of my regulars has been observed. Foremost among these are the Yellow Rumped Warblers (shown) which have already been spotted here in Cary by reliable correspondents. As usual, they haven't gotten around to me yet. I'm also looking to see the season's first Slate Colored Juncos, Red Breasted Nuthatches, and Ruby Crowned Kinglets. Last winter we had visits by Pine Siskins and Hermit Thrushes but I can't count on a repeat performance, but one never knows what may come by especially if the weather is cold enough up north. I am due for a Purple Finch and an American Redstart. Anticipation is high. Who will set up a visitation schedule at our feeders? and when will they make their first appearance?
