Long-Lost Flicker is Back

We always seen a noticeable increase in the number of species visiting once the weather cools. Recently I've seen Juncos and Pine Warblers return for winter feeder activity, and I can now also add the Northern Flicker. To be sure I only have one not-very-good photo to show for it, but that's all we need as evidence. This Flicker dropped by on Sunday and I have not spotted it since, but I am certain it is around and will soon be poking at the suet. It has been some time since we last saw a Flicker---May 29 to be exact. So during the summer they found more than enough insect and other matter to take care of their needs. I'm keeping close watch on the suet feeders. Perhaps we'll get a little more visitation in the next few days.
