Not That I am Surprised

The two dish hummingbird feeders have remained up now for over six weeks past the point when our last Ruby Throated Hummingbird passed through. I have seen no evidence whatever of any Rufous Hummingbirds, (or any other odd hummers for that part) at either unit. I am hardly surprised. While the Rufouses have been reported in this county in recent years, the odds are long indeed that one is going to visit my feeders. The only question left is how long I want to fill, clean and maintain nectar feeders too much longer. I'm thinking at least into the first week of December. And then I'll do some calling around to see what is a safe cut-off. I am thinking that if one hasn't found me yet this fall, a few more weeks into deeper parts of winter is not going to make a difference. We shall see what happens.
