One of my usual regulars that's stayed clear of the feeder station for some time is the American Robin. I haven't photographed one of these characters since late July, but I know they're around. I caught sight of two of them using the pedestal bird bath on the woods edge this afternoon (photo courtesy of my pocket Canon digital camera.) The Robins were heavy users of suet but for whatever reason this summer's group stayed away and the birds here for the fall are no different in taste. I assume they'll eventually gravitate back once the insects are a little tougher to find. But until then, whatever lingers on the edges of the property is about all I am going to see.
